Outdoor Activities
Most years, Portland is still a Winter Wonderland in early March.
Even if it is hovering above freezing in the City, the surrounding area is full of opportunities to snowshoe, cross-country and alpine ski, and snowboard. Here is a list of some of our favorite places to enjoy the outdoors in winter. Snow Shoeing and Cross Country Skiing
Pineland Farms: About 20 miles north of Portland (I-295) in New Gloucester, Maine is a 5,000 acre working farm with nearly 20 miles of trails to cross country ski or snow shoe. Website: www.pinelandfarms.org Hours: 8:00 am-5:00 pm Ski and Snowshoe rentals are available Bradbury Mountain: About 20 miles north of Portland (I-295) just outside of Freeport, Maine is a fantastic state park with miles of trails suitable for hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Only 4.5 miles away in the town of Cape Elizabeth. Website: www.portlandheadlight.com LL Bean Flagship Store: 20 miles north of Portland in the town of Freeport is the Flagship store for the world famous LL Bean clothing and outdoor gear retailer.
