Want to help Green the Meeting?Consistent with the meeting’s theme of Sustainable Oceans in Theory and Practice, we’d like to make the 2017 Benthic Ecology & SEERS Spring Meeting as sustainable as we can.
We are feverishly exploring ways to do so, including offsetting the carbon emissions from participants’ travel, recycling (of course!), using locally-sourced, sustainable food and coffee, composting, using durables instead of disposables for coffee breaks, reducing paper and other material use, etc. Believe it or not, we are blazing new trails locally in doing so, and our conference location, the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center, and our host, Coastal Carolina University, actively are working with us to reduce waste, recycle, conserve water, and help in other ways with our efforts. Some of our greening practices involve no additional cost. But the registration fees by themselves will allow only minimal greening, so we ask you to consider opting in and contributing $10 to Green the Meeting. Doing so will help make the Benthic Ecology & SEERS Spring Meeting a model for future meetings, and will also ensure that the organizers do not feel hypocritical by putting on an unsustainable meeting whose theme is sustainability! We thank you in advance for considering chipping in ten bucks! |
